Brad Peterson has been involved in the Vista community for more than 20 years. He is a financial advisor with Edward Jones and his office is in downtown Vista. Brad is the Chairman of the VEF Board and a member of the Central Vista Business Improvement District Advisory Board. He is a past Chairman of the Vista Chamber of Commerce, a past member of the Citizens Bond Advisory Committee, VUSD, and past President of the Vista Sunrise Kiwanis Club. Brad was instrumental in partnering with Sony in the Laptops for Learning project.
Garry G. Garretson,
Garry G. Garretson is Vice President of the Vista Education Foundation, having served for over five years. Having served for 40 years with a Fortune 500 Company in sales, finance, human resources and operational leadership Garry brings great experience to the board. He presently serves as Chairman of the Vista Parks and Recreation Commission, member of the Vista Workforce Roundtable and the Tri-City Hospital Foundation. As a Vietnam combat veteran, his passion is providing light to returning veterans with job seeking training. He is a regular attendee and active participant at North Coast Church.
JoAnn Jones has been an educator in Vista since 1986. She retired in 2015 after 29 years of service to Vista Unified. Her years of high school experience took her from classroom teacher to principal. JoAnn has served on the advisory boards for the Arthritis Foundation, the Vista Park and Recreation Personnel Commission, and currently sits on the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification for the state of California.
JoAnn holds a BA degree in Recreation Administration from SDSU, a Masters degree from Cal State Northridge and Administrative education credentials from Cal State San Marcos and National University. She is looking forward to new adventures in her retirement.
John Herrera was born and raised in Austin, Texas. At the age of fourteen he enlisted in the Texas National Guard and served on active duty in the United States Navy. During his 22 years of military duty he served at various duty stations, which included Destroyers, Cruisers, and the Fleet Marine Force in the Republic of Vietnam. His numerous military awards include the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Since leaving the Navy, John earned several degrees in graduate studies, including psychology and business administration. He has taught for the Adult Education program for Mira Costa Community College, and has worked as an instructor/tutor at the elementary, junior and senior high schools in private and public schools. He is a past Vice president of the Vista Junior Chamber of Commerce, and a past President of Palomar Community College Drama Club.
Susan Stuber is a 20 year teacher with the Vista Unified School District. She has been involved with the district music programs at the elementary and middle school level. Susan has also been involved with Vista’s very own Moonlight Amphitheater. Her commitment to the arts and to ensuring that every student has access to high quality arts programs is one reason Susan is involved with the VEF.
Donna Zazuetta is a classified Vista Unified School District employee and is, currently the Staff Secretary and provides assessment services at the Learning Center with a focus of proper program placement for our English learner students. She has been with VUSD for nearly 16 years, and has also worked with students at two school sites, Beaumont and Crestview Elementary schools. She is married and has lived in Vista for over 35 years and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren.
Dr. Devin Vodicka,
Superintendent – VUSD
The Vista Unified School District is pleased to introduce Dr. Devin Vodicka as our new superintendent. Dr. Vodicka comes to us from nearby Carlsbad where he served in various administrative capacities for the past 10 years. He earned a Doctorate of Education (EdD) and Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University, where he has also been an adjunct faulty since 2006. We look forward to continuing to partner with the VUSD Superintendent and are glad to have Dr. Vodicka on our board.

Judy Ritter has been a business owner and resident in the community for over three decades. She was elected to the Vista City Council in 1998 and was elected Mayor in November, 2010. Mayor Ritter is recognized as an extremely hard working councilwoman. She is very involved in local and regional government and serves as Vista’s regional representative on the San Diego Association of Governments and is the City representative to the Encina Wastewater Authority. Ms. Ritter was a founder of the Vista Village Business Association and served twice as the organization’s president. She continues her involvement in many local community activities. Public safety, Vista’s Downtown Redevelopment Project, Vista’s Schools, and programs benefiting Vista’s senior and youth populations remain among the highest of priorities on her list. She has received the Oceanside Soroptimist Woman of Distinction Award and numerous awards for community service. The Mayor has three grown daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Vince Hinojosa has been in the banking industry for over 20 years in North County San Diego. He has held different positions at several banks and he is currently the Banking Center Manager at Comerica Bank, Escondido. Previous to his banking career he was a Sergeant, Crew Chief in the USMC. Not only is he on the Board of VEF but he is the current President of Rotary, a Board Member of the North County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of CHAD (Combined Health Agencies for United Way) and Optimist Club Member. He currently resides in Vista.

Steve is currently Sr. Vice President for Regents Bank and has more than 25 years banking experience. His past community service encompasses being Chairman of the Vista Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Vista Economic Development Association and Commissioner on the Vista Planning Commission. He has a B.A. in Mathematics with minor emphasis in Applied Physics from University of California San Diego. He is married and has two grown children.

Jody has 30+ years of administrative experience. She has experience working in two start up companies (biotech and the IT industry), a big 6 CPA firm and the construction industry. She has been working for the last 10+ years at Edward Jones with Financial Advisor, Brad Peterson. She initially did the administrative work for the VEF and then joined the Board in 2014. She has an A.S. degree in Criminology from Grossmont College and graduated from a 2 year program in Human Resources from SDSU. She is a San Diego native, has one grown child and three grandchildren.
